IS IT JUSTICE FOR LOYALTY?

The Bhutanese Government goes all out to punish the suspected and even the doubted cases. Dasho Shingkar Lam, who served as Deputy Minister, Secretary to the Late King Jigme Dorji Wagchuk, speaker of the National Assembly and also as Secretary to the present Father-King Jigme was arrested and tortured around 1975 as he was suspected of possessing documents concerning the mistress of the late king Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. He was released four month later after which he was made to resign. A year earlier to this incident, the then Shung Donyer (Deputy Home Minister) Shengngap Dhendup was imprisoned for twelve years and tortured, then Police Chief Bab Dada was also arrested and tortured and even his relatives serving the Government and in the Monk body were expelled. Mongar Depung Kota and Talo Sangey Wangdi were also arrested and tortured to death. Twelve to fifteen others had been arrested at the same time have been released.
