After a gap of some days I would like to pass you all about the call made by the Norwegian Embassy about the resettlement of refugees on 10th of October. The delegates were Magne Holter, assistant director general of the department of migration under ministry of labor responsible for refugee policy, Tony Loge Tveter,( lady) of asylum Norwegian Directorate of migration and serisushule ( name not clear because of her pronunciation) HOD of reception centre for refugees in Norway.They took the opinion from us and gave us some very little information as we were basically discussing the security crises in the camps. We requested the dissemination of the information by the concerned sides as refugees can no more pass information. They want resettle Bhutanese refugees around the number of 150-300 although the number is not confirmed. Norway has resettled the Congolese refugees from Africa and Burmese refugees from Thailand, Malaysia and India. After having the process of resettlement like other countries do they allocate the municipalities to the refugees but there is no choice of municipalities for the refugees in Norway as there is the provision of all the facilities like health care, school and all the necessaries in a proper management. They usually set the goal of 2 years for making the refugees able to be self-reliant. They have the criteria of applying for citizenship only after 7 years. They said there is the program to support repatriation to monitor and to prove with little sum of money up to the home country but only if the situation in the home country is congenial. They are going to have meeting in home ministry-Nepal today (11th October) and are going to India to have discussion with the Government of India about the process.
As the process of resettlement is going on all in ad-hoc basis and the Government of Nepal (GoN) is in the tactical dilly-dallying process we requested the core countries to go for policy documents with the GoN.
